KID'S METTA | 6-week Applied Loving-kindness Meditation for kids aged 7-12

HOW DOES KID'S METTA WORK?
As long as the partnering groups warrant their free distribution to the children with the 6-week applied Loving-kindness Meditation courses, KID'S METTA responds with spiritual teachers, hand-in lessons and key-points guidance in delivering a fruitful course. At all times the partnering groups can self-determine their improvements in prior consultation with KID'S METTA.

WHY METTĀ MEDITATION?
Gautama Buddha’s teaching of METTĀ BHĀVANĀ or Loving kindness meditation (LKM) distinguishes him from other previous religious teachers. This meditation not only helps to cultivate universal love and self-compassion but also brings about sublime states of mind leading to awakening.
  • Applied Metta Meditation for 7 to 12-year-old children aims to foster selfless love towards oneself and the others through heartfelt care.
  • Nurturing selfless love, amity, and benevolence from a young age, as suggested by the Buddha in the Pāli canon [1], may help prevent stress in subsequent years.
  • LKM interventions have been tested in both psychopathology and mental health for a decade and the cultivation of loving kindness has been shown to be efficacious as a “mental vaccination” with great promise.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
KID’S METTA or Applied Loving-kindness Meditation Program is designed and freely distributed for school students aged 7-12. The meditation for kids program consists of 03 modules:
  • (I) 48 in-class hours (or equivalently, six one-day sections): conducted in six consecutive weeks. The program structure which is depicted in the table below shows the allocation of time allotted to Dharma, Meditation, Break-time and Neil Fleming’s VARK teaching model.
  • (II) Workout module: self-directed work assigned for students during weekly intervals. Ideas can be sketched out by individuals or student groups. The purpose of this module is to establish an action-based change in the ethos of mind.
  • (III) Dharma therapy-based coaching: weekly meeting at the end of every section. Each individual or group has 5-to-45 minutes based on their questions and issues regarding the practice and Dhamma lessons.
